"London's Coolest top 20 bars"
Time Out - London - Eating & Drinking Guide 2007-8
One of the pioneers of the drinking & Dim sum trend, Drunken Monkey is a sophisticated yet unpretentious space. Moody lighting, potent cocktails (monkey Mojito @ £6.50) and excellent sound system that's spot on for weekend debauchery, but it works just as well during the week. This is one of the very few Shoreditch bars that can claim a proper buzz on a Monday night. A reservation is advised if you want to sample the dim sum (£3.00-£4.00) The Chinese styled design- Heavy wooden tables, red lanterns strung above the bar, huge mirrors edged with gilt lattice work – is appealing and atmospheric, and ideal for dates (there's a tiny, secluded side room that's fits just two tables). Service is excellent.
* Given a Time Out "Star Rating". Given to those venues that Time Out particularly like and are marked with a red star. *
"With the rest of Shoreditch's pubs and bars hurtling towards the homogenous, The Drunken Monkey makes a refreshing change... artistically redecorated and transformed into a chinese-style eating-and-drinking den. Great dim sum."
the Evening Standard
Edward Sullivan
"This is the place to go on those occasions you have slept in too late to go to dim sum and still crave steamed prawn dumplings, peking duck, water-mellon margaritas and electro-funk vibe. And isn't that all the time?"
The Independent On Sunday
Terry Durrack
"An object lesson for bar proprietors of the past present and future."
Metro Life Magazine
Edward Sullivan
"A very welcome addition to the east central district"
